Hell or Helles is the traditional every day Bavarian lager beer. Light in color, and easy to drink. Hell means bright in German, or shining with much light.
The Norse word Hel means Underworld - which is the root of English Hell and German Hölle.“Hell is empty and all the devils are here” is a quote from William Shakespeare's The Tempest. It appears when Ariel describes Ferdinand's cry during a shipwreck.
(The Bavarian Purity Law of 1516, also known as the Reinheitsgebot, was the world's first consumer protection law for food and drink. It limited the ingredients for brewing beer to barley, hops, and water. The law was issued by Bavarian Duke Wilhelm IV in April 1516.)
